Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Visits Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery

Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery was proud to host Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Earl “Buddy” Hance and members of the Maryland Agricultural Advisory Commission at the winery on October 13, 2010.  The visit included a discussion of the founding and history of Perigeaux’s vineyards; soil and climate conditions for growing grapes in Southern Maryland; Perigeaux’s sustainable agriculture and wine-making philosophy; an overview of the agro-tourism industry in Maryland, with a focus on the Patuxent Wine Trail; and future plans for the expansion of the vineyards and winery at Perigeaux.   Mr. Behun expressed his gratitude to the Secretary and Commission members for their visit, and highlighted the helpfulness and assistance of the state’s agricultural extension office in Calvert County, as well as that of the county’s Economic Development Department.
